Can't upload a single/particular ride?

Coming from the Edge-1000, I could select a particular ride saved on the device, and then select the option to “Upload Ride”, and that ride would be uploaded via bluetooth into the cloud, like magic. This was particularly useful if/when an automatic upload failed.

The Edge-1040 seems to lack this magic. If an upload fails (plenty of posts about that), I have to connect the device to a computer with a USB cable, find the FIT file, and manually upload it, like a caveman. I'd rather use that time for yoga, or enjoying some vegan ice-cream.

Why does the Edge-1040 not have an option, per saved ride, to “Upload Ride”? I only have options to “Delete” or “Save Ride as Course”.

On the opposite end of the automation spectrum, the Edge-1000 also had the option to NOT upload rides automatically via bluetooth. To emulate this functionality on the Edge-1040, it seems like I'd have to turn off bluetooth (and wifi?), but that disables a lot of functionality in the Edge-1040.

A lot of people have a lot of reasons for NOT wanting to automatically upload rides, so why is this functionality absent in the Edge-1040?

  • nb, there really should be an indication on the device indicating that an upload has either automatically completed or automatically failed. Lacking that, I just have to leave the device on for a few minutes after a ride, and hope that the ride has uploaded before I power-off. This is not even good.
