How do I set my Garmin 1040 to show the upcoming cross streets if I am not following a course?

By switching to the map screen? I don't really get this question, how would the Garmin know without a course what comes next?

If you have the Guide text active at the top of the map screen (ALWAYS DISLPAY) the road name you are currently riding along will display ("Riding on ABC St") and as you approach a cross street it will say ("XYZ St Ahead"), don't need to be following any course (as you can see no course is active) (PS this is 23.10 beta but same works with current 21.x)

PS Same ("Riding on ...") even on 1050 (with the nice bigger rider location symbol)
