Which device to use as primary training device?

Hi,

I have the edge 1040 and the fr965. Obviously I have the watch set in GC as primary wearable and before today I also had it as the primary training device. Something I read under DC Rainmakers edge 1050 review made me think that my edge 1040 should in fact be set as my primary training device.

The edge is the device I use to record all road rides and indoor bike workouts (with power meter and HRM).

Is this correct or doesn't it really matter?

Thanks

  • I think the answer really depends on what activities you do most - running probably have the 965 as primary but cycling then 1040. I am primarily cycling so I have my 1040 as the primary training device.

  • I agree with the other response. I have both an Edge 1040 and an FR955. The 1040 captures all outdoor cycling activities, so I have that device listed first.

Also, I have only ridden with my watch a couple of times (do not prefer the watch when cycling at all  - I use a nylon band that gets soaked with sweat when I ride), but my understanding of the Connect feature is that if both watch and Edge record the same activity, it will only use the data captured from the activity recorded on the device set as the priority.

In those cases, the Edge activity was all that appeared in Connect, and ultimately Strava.
