If a hard reset doesn't work, it seems like something is wrong with the device. I'd inform the shop and let them fix it.

Are you outside when doing this search and is there a clear view of the sky?

Are you using a Profile that has GPS turned on ie not an indoor profile

Have you done a first sync of the 1040 to Garmin Connect, it will download a file that aids the finding of satellites , this gets updated regularly

i added the gps signal strength in the active profile. it is zero.

so my guess the device is broken.

what is the gps firmware in the unit? 11.00 or 0.00?

connect the gps to te computer and sincronize with garmin connect.

gps version is 11.00

i did the downgrades as described but it didn’t help

after that i updated the firmware again tp 21.17

and yes i have synced the gos with connect on a pc.

btw.. i think ithis is useless, when you buy a gps, you won’t need a computer or a phone to connect.

A gps is a standalone device and has nothing to do with an external device.

the connection downloads the ephemeris file via GConnect to the unit which helps the Edge to get faster lock (because this file tells the actual sats positions in given time to the unit), if this file is non-exists or corrupted, then the unit can product such an operation. plug it to the computer, check the Garmin\RemoteSW folder and delete the files there, then sync with the Garmin Express (or via BT by Garmin Connect mobile or via inbuilt wifi), and try again. if it is not finding position within a few seconds outside, then the unit has serious problem (maybe hw defect , not connected antenne or similar)

nothing worked, i have send it back. maybe i wait for the new edge 1050

good decision :) (just i think its price will be 800eur... :D)
