Edge 1040 Solar Wifi password character limit Firmware v21.17

I just got a brand new Garmin Edge 1040 Solar and i can NOT believe still this BUG and limitation exist and has not been fixed by Garmin.

This is a known bug for over 2(!) years.

https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1040-series/297119/wifi-password-character-limit

Garmin has limit the wifi password for WPA2 wifi networks to 26 characters, why????

I wonder why that makes any sense instead of using wifi protocol standards.

There has provided a "work-around" by other users to update Wifi password via the Garmin Connect app but that does not work for me.

When i add the network and password via Garmin Connect app via Bluetooth it shows a message in Garmin Connect that the tested connection is successful, however, when i go to "Settings, About, Check Updates via Wifi" it shows an error code 0600 after about 30 seconds "Can not connect to wifi. Code 0600"

Firmware v21.17 (updated via Bluetooth).

Photos of error and screenshots of successfuly testing wifi network on phone, Garmin Connect app => Edge 1040 Solar.

  • You waste your time here, sometimes i wonder also my self why i enter the forums.

  • Also frustrating Garmin has no explaination for these error codes published anywhere. How can a user ever understand what the possible cause is?!

  • You might be hitting a couple of different things.

You got a new unit which likely had an old software on it depending on when it was built. There was a character limit on older software builds that was fixed in a software update. So that would explain the password problem. If you have been able to update the software the password issue should now be fixed.

From my understanding error 0600 is that device has no free space.

  • I wish I had that problem; my wifi hasn't actually worked in ages.  It finds my wifi networks (tried several), says it is connected, but when I try to do anything with it like sync, it says it can't sync.  I doubt I've had a working wifi sync since v21.00 came out.  All my syncs end up using BT over my phone because there's no other option.
