Can you have two wide data fields on the map?

I like to use two Connect IQ apps on the bottom of the map screen, WindField and MapDashboardMS. If I choose the layout with two data fields on the map, I get them side by side and narrow. I would love to get them stacked and wide similar to the way the three field layout does on the bottom. Is this possible?

  • Any findings on this one? I have exactly the same question. Can't believe this is not possible.

  • I haven't heard anything outside of your comment. Not unexpected as I think it would need to be a new layout from Garmin.

  • You could choose the 3 datafield variant. Use the windfield at the bottom (the wide datafield). Instead of using MapDashboardMS you get the Edge Mapfields datafield. This wil allow you 4 datapoints in 1 small datafield. As the app has several clones in de IQ store, you also can have 2 side by side, and get 8 datapoints that way instead of 6 with MapDashboardMS.

Myself, I use the 4 field layout on the Map display. 2x Edge Mapfields at the bottom, then WindField and My Bike Radar Traffic (to display the speeds etc of the cars behind me that my Garmin Varia 515 records) above.

  • Thanks! This workaround works for me too, though I think it's a failure from Garmin that we need such workarounds.
But I guess it goes in line with a cycling computer that can't tell the battery level of the paired phone :D

  • That works great! The three datafield view with windfield in the wide location and two Edge Mapfields. I'll give it a spin this weekend on the road! Thank you.

  • Very nice.  Thanks for the tip about MapFields.  It's working great for me.  IDK how to find anything in the IQ store and only find out about these apps from posts like these.

  • Hi! I‘m the developer of MapFields. There are different ways to find some datafields that might help you.
If you know what you are looking for: search the store by keywords like „map“ or such else.
If you have found a datafield you like, tap on the developers name in the store and you will see all datafields of that developer.
If you are looking for datafields for Edges, search for „edge“.
You can also filter only for datafields.

    Have fun with MapFields!

  • Hi mcinner1.  Thanks for creating that app.  As far as searching the IQ store, it'll only search on one word which returns many many results. There is no ability to drill down so I have to open each and try to figure out what it is from the often too brief, incomplete, and awkwardly written description.  In the case of your app, it took a few readings to understand what it was and how it worked.  You mentioned the fields needed to be selected in settings, but not that settings were accessible only in the IQ phone app. I looked on the device, I looked, in the Connect app, and after watching the Desfit video I saw that the settings were in the IQ app.  This might be obvious to someone more familiar with IQ apps than I am.

Unrelated to anything you've done, when I tried that, I couldn't get any settings to stick as there was a banner across the top of the screen saying that some permission needed to be granted.  I checked and all permissions were granted,  Still no go.  I then unchecked and rechecked all permissions.  Still no.  Finally I deleted and reinstalled the IQ app on my phone.  This time the banner across the top of the settings screen was gone and I could see there was a Save button!   All is good.
