Garmin Edge 1040 - Black boot screen during ride / workout

Hi. I have a relatively new Garmin Edge 1040 and used it maybe for 2000-3000km so far. On some of my last rides I had the following:

After about 3hours or 80km into the ride, the Edge shows a black screen, like the one when it is booting or charging (showing the battery symbol and Garmin logo) and then after 30sec or so it is back. It continues to record the ride (but I need to press the play button) - but it did not record while it was in black screen. It looks like the device is rebooting - but why is it doing that during a ride?

(I rode with a friend last week, he is on a 1030 edge - exact same thing happened to him 70km into our ride)

I had it with Navigation on and off - seems to be not related to that. Device is not full (storage) and had plenty of battery life left. Firmware is current, no beta version. I have a bunch of sensors connected (Garmin Rally, Polar HR strap, Varia).

Any help appreciated - super annoying bug.

    I can confirm this behavior on my edge 1040 (with 20.19 release)

    This happened to me yesterday during a race. I've had the 1040 Solar for almost 2 years, and over that time the software has gotten progressively more buggy. For both my A and B events this Spring I have had incredibly frustrating issues with the 1040. Not what you expect for the price of the device.

    Same here, seems on longer rides. But I suppose that might just be the way probability works, 4x chance when on a 4 hour ride vs. 1 hour ride?

    Sorry, don't have a solution. Did a factory reset. No love. Also was recent firmware update (like this week), but just happened to me again on 2.5hours into a ride.

    Garmin - anyone listening?

    I would call Garmin Support, the OP's issue was a good while ago and the recent 24.18/19 software had a number of "fixed" crashes / reboots / freezes etc , if it is still happening as you observe then they should be made aware officially, (they rarely view / respond here), a new beta will likely start in the next week or two so a solution needs to be included, tell them

    Over the last few years Garmin is not capable to hold control over their products and software updates

    Noted yesterday during 240km ride that recording without navigatiing was OK.

    Recording with navigating was a disaster as the the rebouting behavior started over and over again.

    Also noted that calculating the route broke off after 12% of the route.

    Once I stopped the acitvity and left the power on the rebooting issue begins all over again.

    From time to time GARMIN really sucks, that's a fact.

    I have no idea how long we'll need sto wait for fixes, but this is absolutely unacceptable
