Training Plan UI on the Edge 1040 is utter garbage

I'm not sure if Garmin had an intern work on this feature or what, but the UI is utter garbage.

For one, the widget on the home screen never updates from day to day. The only way to get it update reliably is to reboot the device. So if yesterday was a rest day, and I open it today, it will still show me Daily Suggested Workout, rest day.

If I then go to the Training Plan menu, I can see the actual workout for that day. Syncing has no effect.

Beyond that, if you start clicking around on the calendar days to see future training days, when you click back and forth, sometimes what you just looked at will show up instead of the current day when you tap back. It seems like a race condition in the UI if I had to guess.

If you are really lucky, when you open the Training Plan, and start click around, it will just hard lock the device. I just have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset it, you can't put it to sleep or anything.

I don't have any other issues with my device that would point to hardware issues, I think this is just garbage software for this component.

Sorry, rant over.

  • Yep.  Others have made similar observations, including me.  The workout page is very poor too.  Some workout data fields don't work properly so you can't really construct your own good workout page.  I'm sure there are some IQ workout pages that are better, but it seems impossible to search and very difficult to find anything in the IQ store. It's more just luck and trial and error.
