ANT+ sensors dropout

Hello.

I have an Edge1040 and speed sensor (Garmin), power meter (Stages), Varia radar (Garmin), heart rate sensor (Polar).

When I go on a ride, after a certain time, I find that the sensors no longer communicate anything with the Edge1040 unit (the sensors are set to ANT+).

If I restart the unit, everything is OK. If I pause the lap and then resume after few minutes, they start communicating again.

What exactly is wrong with this unit?

Last time i have updates my unit software was 3 weeks ago via PC software.

It irritates me to the point that I gave a lot of money per unit, and it's no good. I go out once every month for a ride, and then I encounter countless problems. It seems like the problems with this unit never end. I used to have an Edge820, and I've never had so much trouble with it.

At one point the Varia radar was disconnected and reconnected all over again for the whole ride, then now I came across this problem with the sensors that disconnect, a couple of versions of software back always disconnect the power meter, now it goes and disconnects all the sensors randomly..., last year the back to start was not working even i was under clear sky i get no GPS message (unable to find position even all bands was selected) etc It's horror.

  • Hello!

I am having a similar issue. My set up is Varia RTL 510 light (ant+ only), Vector 2 pedals (ant+ only) and Ultegra Di2

I keep getting random messages of disconnected and connected immediately after.

If I set up Ultegra Di2 to Bluetooth only, the head unit does not pick it up

My GPS works all the time though

I hope @Garmin gets its act together

  • I don't know what the message says, but that's what happened to me.
Especially with the Varia RTL510 radar.
I reset the radar to factory settings, deleted the connection to the 1040 unit, rebuilt it etc. to no avail. It kept disconnecting and reconnecting over and over again.
Then the next version lost connection with Stages power meter. You'd find yourself half the lap having power and half not or random. Of course, I reset the connection, changed the batteries in the power meter etc...to no avail.
In the latest software version (I think not the current one, the previous one is installed) after a certain time after going on a lap you wake up that you have no connection with the sensors, although when you go on a lap they were all working correctly.
In the last three to four laps after 5-6 km I was suddenly without power displayed on the screen, no pulse, no radar etc.
If I paused and waited 2–3 minutes and then restarted, the sensors would start showing on the screen that they were connecting in turn.
If I restarted the unit and missed the turn, all the sensors would work again.
I don't know, but it's horror, this unit.
And when I think of the financial effort I went through to buy it, I just want to scream.

  • speed sensor connected
    heart rate sensor connected

    cadence sensor connected

    radar connected

  • For the past 2 days, I've had a very similar experience with the edge 1040 solar. During a ride following a course, all sensors disconnected including Varia, SRAM, Garmin HR monitor, Quarq PM (power, cadence, etc.) but the course and GPS continued to work. The disconnect/connect messages drove me crazy so I stopped and powered off the unit and then back on. All sensors reconnected fine. Today the same thing happened however I was not following a course. I powered the unit off then back on and all was good. I was enrolled in the Beta program and have just left the program - thinking that is/was the issue.
