Hi!
Garmin, with the edge 1040 you have introduced a new type of display, "easier", but it would be good to go all the way, because other pages are not practical to use, they are kept rough and not suitable for cycling use and especially with gloves during the winter.
The Varia lighting/radar page, the lower half of this page is empty, with very small rectangles on the upper part to change the lighting modes, with gloves even when stopped it is very complicated! !!
On the other hand it is a good idea to allow us to visualize the chosen mode, you have decided to highlight the small rectangle of the chosen mode, thank you for that!!
But Garmin please give us 4 big buttons, like for the page where there are the 4 big buttons (profile, settings, % battery and gps mode), you do it on one page and not for another, Aren't you different teams working on each page of this 1040?!
And also, why didn't you have the same idea for indicating the chosen GPS mode? When choosing the best accuracy, there is a "+" symbol next to GPS, but for the other modes there is no difference, apart from GPS being disabled. It would be nice to have this little detail which would allow you to see the chosen GPS mode at a glance, because when you press the GPS mode, there is no highlighting like for the Varia, it's weird to have different ergonomics of use from one page to another, you can't find Garmin?
Take inspiration from smartphones, you started with a button at the bottom right to access the settings, generalize this type of button, it looks like you started something and it stopped halfway, the idea was good, but the follow-up is missing.
One more example, on the home page there are 2 small arrows to scroll through the activities, between the activity icon and the textual indication, compact all that, there is a little more room for have 2 practical round buttons to know if you have pressed the button correctly.
I'm sure there are further improvements to make everyday use of the 1040 more practical.
Thank you to other users for contributing to this post if you think it is useful to improve the ergonomics of use of the 1040
