Garmin Edge1040 Solar not starting

Today after 02h44 into a ride (race), I noticed that my head unit froze. The touch screen was completely unresponsive.

After the race, I switched it off, by holding the power button. This at least worked.

Now, it refuses to boot up again. I have tried holding the power button until I hear a startup sound, but nothing displays. When "clicking" the power button, there is a sound but NOTHING on the screen. I have tried the suggested methods and key combinations to restore it, but to no avail. Is this a paper weight now?

PS: I was running a stepped workout function to estimate power requirements as per Best Bike Split functions. No ConnectIQ apps etc.

  • Sounds like a screen issue, doesn't it, and possibly the connection to the screen. It MIGHT be quite easy to fix by stripping the device, but personally I wouldn't try that on a new(ish) unit - I think I'd just refer it straight to Garmin Support, who will probably just replace it without argument.

Out of interest, was the race wet? (If in the UK, I'm guessing it was! Joy) If so, I wonder if water ingress might have been a factor.
