Can't change language

I can't change the language on my 1040, the only option is English. On the device as well as in the connect app. When I setup the device for the first time I selected German as language, but at one point it was automatically changed to English. However I can't recall when that happened, maybe after an update. I have the latest version 19.22 and the latest connect(android) app version. I have my phone, that is linked with the edge, set up in English, but I guess that should not matter.

How can I change the language on the edge to something else than English?

i think you have to connect via pc o portable with garmin connect.

Wenn du bei Sprachen nur Englisch wählen kannst, dann fehlen alle Sprachdateien auf deinem Gerät.

Du musst dein Gerät an den PC/Mac stöpseln, dann Garmin Express starten und dort die Sprachdateien neu installieren. Möglicherweise wird das auch automatisch passieren.

copy this file into the \Garmin\Text directory and the 1040 will speak to you in German again

as mcinner1 suggested, I used Garmin Express and connected my 1040 to my mac. After the setup all languages were available again.
