Battery drain when device is switched off

Is anyone getting this with their device? I only really noticed recently because I had a month off due to covid so literally didn't touch the device and I went to use it and it was totally dead. It was on about 70-80% when I last turned it off. I had a sneaking suspicion this might have been happenign before but I was using it quite often so thought I might have just been tripping that it had dropped a little bit.

However on testing I got the thing to 100% and then turned it off (power button, then clicking the red off button). From Sunday 28th Jan to Thursday 1st Feb it has dropped 11% just sitting there doing nothing.....

I have emailed Garmin support about it but just wondering if anyone else has had this? possibly my device is just faulty I guess? it's def not in sleep mode before someone says that.

  • Whoa... I completely missed that it was off. That shouldn't happen that quickly imho when off. In sleep I can imagine that it uses battery, but when off the battery usage should be minimal I think. I would take it up with Garmin support, as I think you may have a hardware issue

  • Interesting. I just powered up my 1040 after 2 weeks and it has lost only 2%. Looks like I only see a loss of 1% per week. I am also not logged into my Garmin connect app on my phone. Only use that app when using my 1040. My current firmware is 19.22

  • Update: after many tests they just sent me a new device. Hopefully this one doesn't have any issues Sweat smile

  • Good luck with the new device. I suspect maybe some internal short or something on the old one, draining the battery that much whilst being off isn't normal Slight smile

  • it's happening to me, i turn off the garmin for 10mins and turn it back on it drops 1% and i just updated the firmware to 21.16, garmin didn't fix it

  • That would be normal, booting the device needs energy and without showing decimals you don't know if your battery was already near the next lower percent.
