Map Display theme customization - Komoot's new iq app

I just saw the news about Komoot's new updated connect IQ app https://newsroom.komoot.com/233037-komoot-map-for-garmin-brings-your-adventure-to-life-with-detailed-map-navigation-and-on-tour-updates

I will say I love the way the maps look. Looks much easier to read based on the mockups and probably no virtual partner junk, etc. Has anyone tried this out yet?

Hopefully Garmin will let users setup themes like this. Even just simple things like the colors in the mockups seem so much more readable.

The colors of many map elements can be changed now via the standard MapTheme although it is a bit of a painful process. Scan this very long 530 discussion from 2 years ago,

Looks like The Komoot IQ app goes further. but as I am not a Komoot user I am not clear what's happening, is the map viewed through the Komoot IQ app of via a modified standard map screen? Can someone who users Komoot install it and report back how it works?

Many many map elements have change requests from hundreds of users (if not thousands) , ie bigger location marker, but Garmin has always ignored these requests, Maybe this will pressure them to do something?

The Komoot maps are very nice , so I got it for my 1040 using a discount to get a Kommot premium membership , that is mandatory.

It seems like the Komoot IQ app takes over the whole bikecomputer , and as a result you get a very limited one compared to what you normaly can have from the 1040. And you have to navigate  a route , you don't just free ride , although you can create a very short route and continue riding when it's finished, and then ride where you please.

The map and navigation is fine, but I've hoped that it just used the Komoot maps as any other map on my device.

So if your top top priority is navigation, and nothing else besides recording where you rode, it could be fine and might be worth the full premium membership.

For my part it doesn't make it worth it, but maybe for you.

  • The map in the Komoot iq app is an order of magnitude better than the garmin maps, you can see easily at a glance where you came from, where you are and where to go. No more riddles in cities which of the many lines are the relevant ones. But: It doesn't reroute and you don't get navigation infos on the single live stats screen. There are only three screens available: The map, the elevation and the live stats.
