Updated to 19.21 - Broke power meter connection

Just updated to 19.21 and the connection to the power meter (THM Clavicula) shows power for 5 seconds, then zero's for 5 to 20 seconds. I deleted the sensor and tried reconnecting and the same thing still happens.

  • Do you have any additional sensors paired to your 1040? If so, what behavior do you see from them?

Additionally, I am unfamiliar with that particular power meter so I am unsure of what information it reports to your edge when paired. Are you able to go into the sensors menu and select details on your edge? I am curious if it is reporting any battery information.

  • Hi Blake,

The power meter was working fine before the update. I believe it is using TeamZWatt's power meter devices.

I can't find on any of the screens battery details. I am able to go into the sensor details when it does connect. Here is the About screen for the power meter.

  • Are you using any other sensors? If so, are these staying connected consistently? Also, are you connecting this power meter by bluetooth or ANT+?

  • Hi Blake,

I am pretty sure it is ANT+ as I just connect it like all the other sensors, meaning, I don't specify bluetooth or ANT+.

It is the only sensor that is dropping and reconnecting. Everything else is staying connect.

Question, what is the best way to move back to the previous version so we can be absolutely sure it is something with the update? If it is doing the same thing under the previous version then I should be pointing the finger at the crank and not the connection.

I know it power meter connection worked perfectly over the weekend when I road the trainer.

  • We do not have a way to backdate the software. Do I have your permission to email you to gather some information?

  • Stupid question, but have you tried to restart the edge before the ride? I usually do this to avoid disconnects. Because I have sometimes disconnects from my Rally power meter.

  • I turn off the Edge after each ride so it is starting (or should be starting) with a clean reboot.

  • i wrote a comment yesterday just "somebody" deleted it, probably i was too harsch... i dont know you read it or not. the problem is the Garmin changed the ANT+ handling from 9.29->18.xx upgrade (due to the InPeak's connection problem) but this modifiing was so "successful" that tons of other sensors started to work (or not work) unreliable and they cant find a solution... (maybe never will find). some sensors has stronger signal and these still work (but with much lower signal quality as with 9.29), some sensors are totally ununasble. (di2 buttons for example , powermeters, and so on) here is an another zwatt : https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-840-series/351114/starting-dropping-my-ant-power-meter-last-week  some users already experienced it with 18.xx , some of them only later with the 19.xx series, probably the Garmin is continosly trying to find a solution for this issue but if they solve it for one unit, another 2 units are not working and so on :D

so i think the only solution now is the BT communication and ignoring the ANT+, the Zwatt should work on BT too.

  • I did read your comment. My question is how to specifically tell one sensor to use BT?
