Really stop Autozoom - always. And more. How to get the device respect my wishes ...

I have disabled autozoom. Still, when I leave a track, that I am following  (i.e. because a closed road), typically the map will be zooming in. While I am off the track, when I manuall zoom out again, after a couple of seconds the device will zoom in again automatically. I just follow tracks normally, no turn instructions.

What can I do, to never get any automatic zooming?

Similar: I have disabled all warnings, so also when I leave a track that I am following. When I return to the track, I get a notification. I don't want this. How can I get rid of it? I would have thought, that disabling any warnings should be enough. And it should be logical, that anybody who does not want to see notifications for leaving the track doesn't want to see a notification when getting back to the track either.

Is there a way to disable the pause icon and darkening the display when stopping? It is useless in my opinion, and it can be dangerous. Normally, any cyclist will know, whether he is moving or stopping  ... When stopping at traffic lights, ofthen I want orientation. This needs addional touches and more focus than necessary.

BTW. The automatic zooming also can be a bit dangerous needing more focus to operate the device when the zoom level switches away from the scale, I want to see. Now it is rather cold and wet here. Bringing the zoom back with warm gloves is not easy. I typically need many touches, till the device is reacting.

  • What software version are you using? Are there specific situations in which you see the Auto Zooms?

I avoid most "auto" features for the same reasons, I have the Auto Zoom disabled (OFF) and have never seen it active in the 15 months of 1040 usage. Good point re Off Course/Course Found warnings but 1040 developers have not been big on "logic" .Do you have Tones disabled, the Off Course / Course Found warnings appear for about 6 seconds and without the tone I often miss them completely.

I also have Auto Pause disabled and many users still complain about the current Pause Warning implementation.

  • Sorry, forgot to mention this. I saw the listed issues with every firmware since I bought the device in June 2022 until version 19.19. . Not sure, if this is related: I normally use maps from openfietsmap.nl, not the Garmin maps. I loaded the maps to the device with old mapsource (which to me is easier to operate, than newer mapinstall).

The specific situations when I see the auto zoom:

    - basically always, when I am off the track I am following (i.e. because of an deviation)

    - When I am starting the ride, track is already loaded, but not even Start pressed. I often plan rides to start a few hundred meters after my house, because otherwise Garmin devices sometimes think, that I am already back, when I am just about to begin.

I hardly ever user routing, just following tracks created on the computer. No turn instructions.

I have Tones disabled. The Course found is not a really big issue. However I sometimes recognize "flicker" on the screen at the edge of my sight, which catches my attention.
