Hello guys,
I've encountered the sensor drop issue that has been previously discussed in this forum. Despite scouring through the existing threads, I couldn't find any conclusive solutions. Therefore, I'm reporting my case in the hope of finding a resolution.
I purchased the Garmin Edge 1040 (non-solar version) approximately four months ago and have enjoyed numerous trouble-free outdoor rides. While I do not have a pedal or crank power meter, I use a Di2 and an HRM-PRO, both of which have never caused any disconnection problems in the past.
For indoor rides, I use a Zwift hub to measure power and cadence. Instead of syncing the smart trainer as a smart trainer directly with the Edge 1040, I only sync the sensor itself. I control the smart trainer using the Zwift app, and I purposely refrain from syncing Zwift App with Garmin Connect to avoid cluttering my GC with unnecessary data such as Zwift maps.
Until recently, I've conducted numerous indoor workouts without experiencing any disconnection issues. However, during my most recent 1-hour and 20-minute workout, I encountered around 10 instances where the power reading dropped to zero, followed by the message "Cadence/Speed sensor connected."
Two days ago, I updated my Edge 1040 to version 18.23. I also completed an indoor session without any issues in the same day I updated the device (after updating it). While I cannot definitively confirm that the problem is related to the update, I didn't encounter this problem prior to the update.
The only thing I can confirm is that the Zwift hub seems to be functioning correctly, as all my power data within the Zwift app remains consistent. Therefore, it appears that the sensor drop issue is unique to the Garmin Edge 1040.
