Can i upload open maps also on the 1040.

I used to be able to change the map file with the edge 530 but cannot find anything in regards to edge 1040. I presume it is the same but wanted to check if someone in the community did it.

No reason to expect it wouldn't work.

The OSM maps you get from other sources aren't really any different than the maps Garmin provides by default or sells.

open source used to have very much detailed maps. It used to be like that now i do not know if they are kept updated

I'm talking about the file format. Not what information the map contains.

Most of the OSM map providers provide frequent updates (maybe, once a month or more).

The maps Garmin provides with the newer units (x30 and later) use OSM data. I don't think they really have less detail than other maps. Garmin updates them once or twice a year.
