The laid route disappears when deviating

Settings: Route Recalculation - off; Course Recalculation - promt with Auto Re-route. v18.23

Situation: I lay a route to the desired point, start moving along it, observe the route line on the map. I deviate from the route (accident detour, repair, water, etc.), the route disappears on the map screen. When I click on the screen, the button "continue navigation" appears and the route is recalculated from my location.

Before the update, I often used route planning for approximate following (through the forest, parallel city streets, etc.). I saw the route on the map and could return to it, I could drive nearby, I could go to another place. But on the map, the laid route was always displayed (navigation along it can be stopped using the buttons in the menu). Now the route disappears with a slight deviation. This is mistake?

P.S. I do not need to rebuild the route every time from the point where I am at the moment. Often the route is long, and by the time it is built, I will have gone far and it starts to rebuild again (if you turn on automatic route planning). But I need to see all the time the route laid by me until I cancel it or change it.

  • Just to be clear, you say “I lay a route to the desired point”, is this a route/course you have created in some planning site and loaded on to the Garmin then selected from courses to ride? And then when you go off course the planned route/course line is not visible?

If you could attach screenshots that would be helpful (from the insert option bottom of reply screen)

  • PS I don’t use Turn Guidance much but if I do then I find Course Recalculation - Auto-Pause better (noting this is pause the navigation, not the activity) , generally I can find my way back to the course and it then restarts navigation, without recalculation, from there, but better if the route does not disappear!

  • Just came back from todays tour:

-loaded course without tbt, of course switch = on, recalculation = autopause
-no message „you are at the start - want you beginn?“
    -chevrons present
    -started ride, all good
-went off course: no message, no beep „Off Course“
-real course still present with chevrons - but I‘m not on it
-came back to course: message „Course found“
-at some point I dismissed the course
-loaded another course (500 m in front of me)
    -no message „navigate to start?“
    -chevrons present
-rode to course - „Course found, virtual partner starts“
    -rode home, all good

    Conclusio:
    all good except missing messages:
-after loading course: „you are at the start“ or „navigate to start?“
    -no „Off Course“ warnings

  • I'm plotting a route on the map screen (I click on a location on the map and the route is built to it). But in previous firmware, the route never disappeared from the map even if I was moving in the opposite direction. In the new version, the route disappears from the map with a slight deviation. I'll try to take a photo with the device soon.

  • I did some testing and found the problem. So, I created a distance on the computer and sent it to the 1040 device. When I arrived, I used the loaded track and built a route to its start:

There is a crossroads ahead, I intend to go straight, not turn left.

    I'm approaching an intersection...

There is no route after it:

Where is the route? "He disappeared!"

The menu has only a "continue" button (no "stop navigation") and it rebuilds the route. It doesn't suit me.

I'm doing a second test. This time, I point to a point on the map and build a route to it, on the device. As you can see, the device suggests returning to the intersection, like last time.

    But I'm going straight...

As you can see, in this case the route does not disappear from the screen, I can return to it by another road, I can turn back. Why is there a completely different behavior in the case of a route to the beginning of the loaded track?
