New Edge 1040 Series Version 18.23 breaks config, sensors and phone connection

The Edge 1040 firmware update 18.23 broke my config from before this upgrade. My devices could not be found any more by Connect on my iPhone, the Radar was not recognized any more, nor were my gears. I would definitely stay away from this 'firmware update', why ruin a perfect configuration. With previous firmware upgrades I could just wait till it was done and go out riding, now I had to spent half my afternoon to figure out I had to reset the Edge to factory settings, remove it from Garmin Connect (on my iPhone), and then go through the setup process on the Edge 1040 as if it were new.

Luckily the sensor settings were saved in Garmin Connect so they could be easily reconfigured, but I spent my afternoon on buggy updates. And then I just got a Epix Pro to add, if I would have known Garmin brought out such buggy updates I would have stayed away from any new Garmin gear.

  • Won't stay connected to my smart trainer now.  Connects and the drops about once every couple seconds.  I reverted to using my 1030 for now till the 1040 is sorted out again

  • I have a feeling that Di2 buttons are not that reposnive and does not work 100% I pres them (only to change garmin screen or press lap) no issue with changing gears..

  • Yeah, mine aren't working right either

  • I’ve had more crashes since last update, than all crashes combined since I got 1040 last year. Navigation got extremely slow too but two very worrying changes:

    - Update deleted my maps, can’t for the life of me understand why so I had to redownload and install them, weird but fixable.

    - More worrisome, is my Di2 sensor keep connecting and disconnecting, hood functions stopped working, removed sensor, reset Garmin 1040, etc. Nothing works. Tried my 1030, and everything worked fine (it’s a Di2 unit on 11 speed,) including hoods. And I see I’m not the only one with sensor issues. More worrisome because map issue was easily fixed, this one I’ve done all possible debugging, and resetting and nothing.

  • same thing, were you able to fix it

  • After cycling 7 days with the new firmware, and having reset my Edge 1040 after it was screwed up by the new firmware and to get my iPhone connection back online, it seems it's kind of stable, also for the connection with my Epix watch. Only annoying thing is that it does not seem to remember screen-brightness settings and having to enable audio prompts for rounds in Garmin Connect each time I go out. Maybe it has an initial problem with old sensors maybe? I had tons of that.

  • I don't have issues you describe since update, but during rides I had crash and reboot of my computer. And I have a lot of consumption of battery

  • I updated to 18.23 this week, no issues so far. All stable. So strange that some users suffer from these issues like disconnects, lost sensors etc. It seems every time Garmin updates the firmware, they fix one issue and break something else...
