Activity split after every longer pause with Auto-pause enabled

Hello everyone,

Due to the specifics of my injury, I can ride for up to approximately 2 hours, and then I need a longer pause, 30mins up to an hour. So I figured, auto-pause will save me the empty sections inside the activities.

It turns out, during these longer pauses, the device saves the ride without any input from my side, and I end up with multiple separate activities. Moreover, the data is recorded for the first activity only. All subsequent activities, do not contain any data apart from time and speed related data.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Enable the auto-pause
  2. Ride for some time
  3. Pause for more than 30 mins
  4. Continue the ride for a while
  5. Make another long pause
  6. Continue the ride again
  7. At the end of the ride, save it.

Actual result:

  1. Three different activities recorded.
  2. Only the first one has all the data populated, including the map and is correctly named
  3. The second and the third one, recorded only the Distance, Timing, Speed, no other data and no map

Note: Short pauses, for like red lights or buying water, the activity doesn't get split.

The rest of activities are same, basically blank.

Am I missing something here? Is my understanding of this feature wrong? Is this a defect?

I understand that such a long pauses are not really normal, but are currently necesary for me. And also in Randonneuring for example, people need to take naps and eat, auto-pause that saves the battery would be great.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated!

  • You can try this (for me it works well and have never broken tracks).

When you have a pause, press the stop-button, and press again when you continue your ride.

  • I recommend setting

    Using Auto Sleep

You can use the Auto Sleep feature to automatically enter sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. During sleep
mode, the screen is turned off and the ANT+ sensors, Bluetooth, and GPS are disabled.
Wi‑Fi continues to run while the device is asleep.
    1 Select
    > Activity Profiles.
    2 Select a profile.
    3 Select Auto Sleep.
    To OFF
  • I was thinking about this, but I wanted to avoid having to press the button as I am sure I'll forget to do it... Smiley

Thanks for the suggestion! Will keep this one as the last resort.

  • This one never crossed my mind! Thanks! I will be trying this, hopefully today. This may be the solution I am looking for, if the activity is not broken... I still think that's a defect..

  • Another option - when it’s paused (I assume this works for auto-pause but could be wrong as I’ve only ever tried it with manual pause) - press the power button to turn the screen off. Impossible to miss when you restart and saves even more power and I have done this for 30mins+ and continued with no impact on activity logging.
