gmapbmap.img file missing

Hello Garmin. I'm in Rambouillet, France waiting to start Paris - Brest in 24 hours. The oldest continuously run bicycle event in the world. 1219 kilometers in 90 hours or less, much of it ridden at night in *very* rural France.

I loaded the route maps for the event via Garmin Connect (OpenRunner > download to my computer > upload to Garmin Connect > download to my Edge 1040 via Garmin Express). I disconnected the 1040 from my computer and loaded each route to make sure they were there and working correctly. They were.

Today, I turned the 1040 to make sure it was still working correctly. As it booted up, I saw an error message at the bottom of the screen saying "failed to get basemap version". When I tried to load the routes, I only got a blank white screen with a dot showing my location. No map. Same with the navigation page in my Workout data screens.

After some searching, I found out about gmapbmap.img and discovered that it is missing from the /Garmin/ folder on my 1040. I never mess with the 1040's internal files, and certainly didn't in this case. Is there a fix for my problem RIGHT NOW AND IN FRANCE?
