Duplicated and Edited Strava Map

The other day I duplicated, then edited a route on Strava.  It uploaded to my Edge 1040 Solar as expected, and I rode the route yesterday.  Halfway through the route is where my path was modified.  Up to that point the navigation was perfect.  But from the point of modification the turn by turn was just awful.  Not a single turn was accurate, and the behavior of the Garmin was random.  Sometimes I’d tell me to turn at the right road, but in the opposite direction. Sometimes it’s say to turn in 2.5 miles, then a second later it’d say to turn in 66ft.  What’s odd is I have the map as one of my screens and the map line represented the correct route I wanted to take.
While on the ride I’d stop the course and then restart it several times. The until would sometimes guide me to the correct turn and direction on the first turn, but then instead of telling me how far to the next turn, it’d start counting how far I’ve traveled from the last turn.  What the heck?
Today, I deleted the map and rebuilt it from scratch to see if that helps. I’ll also restart the Garmin.   But any other ideas on what was happening?

thanks!

  • got the same problem right from the getgo., i tried modifying a new rout wich i got from strava and every waypoint goes his own way...coudnt do anything in terms of deleting waypoints...

  • So I rode a different route the next day and the head unit behaved the same way.  I have about a 1,000 miles on it with no previous issues.  I powered it down - held the power button down so it actually turned off as opposed to going to sleep - and powered it back up after a minute.  I’ve been on a couple rides since doing that and it’s back to working as it should.
I guess I’ll power it down from time to time.

  • I'm interested in why so many users are using the sleep option instead of totally powering down the unit. Since it only takes about 15 seconds for it to boot up from a power down, why use the sleep option? I can understand using sleep when taking a long break on a ride and there is a concern about the battery running low.

  • I don't know what percentage of users are, or are not, using sleep over power down.  I can speak for me.  I am a new user to Garmin, and any head unit for that matter.  I was not paying attention to their being a difference until the unit faltered, and I was forced to figure it why.  Learning as I go.
