Climb pro Disaster with new Beta

  • With the new beta the performance of climb pro is incredibly worse than before. Ascents that do not appear now, those that do appear sometimes do on an incomplete screen and different from the previous one. And another that appear but do not advance when you are in them. It is incredible that a function that was going well, now it is worse than before. Work so that climb pro data can be used on other screens and don't break what is working. Made in garmin, instead of getting better, it gets worse after each update
  • therefore it is a BETA version

  • Agree this is now the second post on the main forum of people complaining of problems on beta software. Do people really not understand what beta means. I’d like to see Garmin drop anyone off the beta program making such comments on here.  They clearly aren’t the right people to be on such a program.

  • Providing more information would help.

What version of maps do you have active on the unit.

Some screen shots or at least descriptions of where you were when things happened.

The activity file for the activity and the sports profile that you were using.

  • it's a great idea actually

  • Isn't the purpose of the beta program to collect complaints, err... bugs? :-)

Yeah, I realise that we have a Beta forum and issues about Beta should go there, but let's face it - the Beta forum sucks. Completely. It's mixing questions, general complaints, bug reports and feature requests. Almost all with 0 votes and no status updates from Garmin. And the Beta forum is getting randomly closed and open. And most of the collected content effectively lands in trash when a new Beta phase is started, whether things were resolved or not. On the main forum you at least get some attention, feedback and discussion. Topics can be updated anytime and discussions reopened.

I wish Garmin had a simple public ticket system where bugs and feature requests can be described, updated and +1'd by everyone affected. Whether in beta or regular software version. Garmin could tag and group those as they wish, of course. But instead we are asked to post in Beta forums, which totally feels like sending your words to a black hole. I described there a totally dumb, perfectly reproducible bug breaking the workouts page in an obvious manner. Being a software engineer, it totally feels like a one-off bug or mishandling of a repeat step. Yet, I doubt anyone noticed, whether among people affected by the bug or Garmin people who could get it fixed.

Yes, it's not nice to escalate every regression in beta software and compare it to the end of the world. But I would also hope that Garmin has some QA (manual or automated) so that obvious breakages are caught before hitting our devices. Especially that those devices could be bricked and we are not even allowed to downgrade when we encounter problems :-) When things get broken and users have no way around it, they feel frustrated, it's natural.

  • With the new beta the performance of climb pro is incredibly worse

Not withstanding shortcomings in the beta process this “climbpro disaster” has not yet been reported in the 18.15 beta Bug reports, that would be a start, clear detailed issue descriptions with screen shots would then help too, if the goal is getting then fixed?

  • You make good points.  I’m not in the beta program so can’t really comment on the effectiveness of feedback. I would still, however, not agree that the place to effectively complain about bugs is on the main forum. I do also find it frustrating the way and tone people raise these on the main forum.  It’s beta software it’s going to have issues, get over it.  If you can’t get out of the beta program.

Plus your points about votes, status updates, feature requests etc all apply on this forum also so what is the extra benefit in reporting Beta issues on the main forum.

Now if a version is actually released and those same issues come through then by all means complain about it and I’d be right behind anyone constructively being critical about the process.

  • Most of us are forced to enroll beta because the non beta software it sucks . Actually we all are in beta, some voluntary and others without knowing. I have two units (one solar and one normal) and both started to be crazy with wrong altitude, gradient etc. Without mentioning the gradient lag (when it works) which is an outrageous issue after years

  • Sorry for posting here and not in the beta software forum. I did not realize. About the problem with climb pro is that now I see a screen that looks like a summary of the climb pros that come to me that I have not chosen and that only shows me the unevenness graph of each one, as a kind of summary similar to the miniwidget page. I do not have this screen active in the profile nor have I chosen to have it appear anywhere in the configuration. The other problem is that there are some climb pros that before entering them let me know that they are coming but when I enter it is as if I did not advance through them, they do not work and once they have passed they do not cause any more problems, they disappear and I continue on my way but they are always the ones themselves. I can send the file of the route in which it happens to me with a specific one always. The map I have installed is the Routable Cycle Map of Europe 2023.10

The climb pro never works is the first on this route.
