  • I believe you need to update the base maps through the Garmin Express software on WIndows or Mac PC, too.

  • That's exactly what I had to do. After that update, ClimbPro started showing up.

And , welcome... I too am a Karoo2 switcher. I'm still getting used to things but so far the 1040 is a great unit.

  • The one step not mentioned here is that after updating and making sure those maps are loaded, you need to go into your ride profile to navigation and maps and make sure they are also enabled. I downloaded them from Garmin Express, but they still weren't showing up. When I looked under my ride profile, they showed disabled. Once I enabled them, they worked similarly to the Karoo.

As far as switching from Karoo2 to Garmin, I went the other way. I use my Garmin 90% of the time because I love WindField. But if I have to navigate a new route I've never ridden, I take the Karoo2 as the maps are better(IMO) and easier to see. If I had a wind data field on my Karoo2, I'd probably ride with it more. My biggest complaint with the Karoo compared to Garmin is battery life. The Edge 1040 will go for a week of riding without a problem. The most significant advantage of the Karoo2 over the Edge 1040, in three years of riding with the Karoo2, I never once lost a sensor on a ride. That happens rather frequently with the Edge 1040 Solar I have,
