Garmin, any plan to sync DSW (Daily Suggested Workout) between FR955 (or compatible) and Edge 1040?

I'm hoping someone from Garmin can chime in here with some good info, or anyone else with some concrete knowledge on the subject.  I've searched the forums, with limited concrete info.

I know not everyone uses the DSW, and thus could care less, which is fine.  I'm just trying to get back into running/cycling, and was hoping to use the DSWs just as a start to get back to reasonable shape.  I've been having the Forerunner 955 for over a year, but just got the 1040 a few weeks ago.

As mentioned numerous times on different forums, the DSWs don't always match.  I can understand that due to the difference in parameters recorded.  But to me what makes sense is to follow the DSW from the primary wearable (using Garmin's terminology), after the device has synced with Connect to get the latest activity info from the 1040.

With Unified Training Status,  multiple Garmin devices share some data.  Seems like the DSW should be shared as well.  In my simple mind, after an activity with the 1040, it syncs with Connect, which then syncs with primary wearable (FR955 in my case).  The FR955 should have priority to create the DSW due to sleep data, any other metrics that could/should affect the DSW, and sync back to the 1040, via Connect.

Worst case, give us a selection to upload the DSW from the FR955 to the Edge 1040, via Connect.  Anyone already have a good/easy way to do this?

Come on Garmin, help us out...please chime in.

Thanks!

  • I have the same problem and I agree it's annoying. Are your DSW threshold interval targets at your FTP at least? Because I also have to update power targets for the workouts to make sense :-)

However stupid it might sound, I ended up copying the workouts from my Forerunner 965 to my Edge, setting the right power targets based on power zones. Since there are only a few suggested workout patterns in fact, I now have a "workout library" in my Edge. Whatever my Forerunner suggests, I have the right workout on my Edge already, or can I quickly tweak one of the workouts.

Yes, I am also disappointed that a pair of top-tier training devices does not simply work together :-(

  • Actually, my FTP hasn't been changing, not sure why.  At least the Watts reading hasn't updated at all, while the W/kg has been shifting slightly, which I assume is due to my weight shifting here and there.

Thus far, I've did a little of what you've done, by creating the DSW from my 955 on my 1040.  It only makes sense to me that the DSW should come from the Forerunner, since it takes sleep and other measures into account.

But yeah, the biggest surprise is what you mentioned, a pair of top-tier devices from Garmin that doesn't appear to update the DSW as one would expect, and then normalize it between both devices.  I sure hope this is in Garmin's plan, to get this right.

Come on Garmin, help us out.  We're not asking for the world here.

    Thanks

  • Interesting...a few minutes ago I changed my battery on my HRM Pro, and was looking at both my FR955 and my 1040 in preparation for a ride tomorrow.  Oddly enough, my 1040 was no longer registered, and had to be re-paired with my phone.  After re-pairing I decided to check/compare my DSW on my 955 with my 1040.  Wouldn't you know, the DSW's were exactly the same for the first three days, then veered off a bit.  I guess it's a start...maybe at some point they'll agree all the time, but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.  Not sure what caused the need for me to re-pair my phone,  but hopefully it won't become a common occurrence.
