Control Garmin Virb Ultra 30 from Edge 1040 Solar?

Hi guys,

I`m a full blown Garmin user since 2015 and owned many devices (Garmin Index Scale 1 & 2, var. Edge & Vivoactive/Vivofit devices, HRM, Fenix watches, cadence and speed sensors, you name it). But I used a Wahoo Roam v1 as a bike computer for the last 3 years up until today along my Enduro 2, my Varia 516 and my Garmin HRM.

I was used to be able to control all of these devices (even though it was finicky at best).

When I switched over to the Solar 1040 today, I made sure that all important things could be controlled (such as the light on my Varia) by the click of a button through my Di2, the 1040 display or (as usual) per my watch and/or the Radar button itself.

But I was NOT expecting to LOOSE the ability to control my Garmin Virb Ultra 30 from my Garmin Headunit.

I can (still) do this through my watch (see photo) but I can`t control my Virb from my 1040 headunit.

So there is no way to either take a photo and/or start/stop a video. Even using the "Auto Start/Stop" when recording an activity doesn`t trigger a recording (in the sensor settings).

The manual feature would be especially useful during a commute. I have a Shimano Di2 on all of my bikes and it would be nice to control the Virb either through the headunit or through the hidden buttons in the Di2 shifters (D-fly) -> for example double or long press on the right to start; double or long press on the left button to stop).

I can see there is a widget to control the camera for the new Varia RCT716 (obviously pointing backwards) but there is no way to control a VIRB that is facing forward and would make a perfect team with a new Varia Radar on a commuter bike.

Is there a way to fix this? Is Garmin aware of this and working on this?
