Point of Interest Navigation Issues

I purchased my Edge 1040 mainly for navigation on bikepacking trips. This allows me to leave my phone packed up and not have to worry about cellphone receptions. I quickly realized the navigation can be unreliable. And having points of interest is super convenient when you are riding into a new place, but only if it works.

Butchart Gardens, which is a popular tourist destination, is listed on POI list and the map clearly shows the location of the POI; however, you simply cannot navigate there. If you enter the address, it will work.

This makes it difficult for me to rely on the device but hopefully Garmin will be able to iron out the bugs.

  • Good morning,

    I use google translation...

When I bought the edge 1040 a year ago with the basic firmware, I tested it straight away on a long journey of 180km to see how it worked in navigation mode with the power guide.
I had also prepared the route by marking the water points so as not to search for them.
All this had worked, power guide, list of POIs with the distances which separated me from the POIs, the navigation had had some bugs with the bad weather.
I used openrunner to make my plots and the list of water points that I identified from the opencyclemap base map.

When I launched the navigation I had a page with a list with all the water points and the distance separating me from them.

Now it doesn't work anymore, the poi page is empty all the time, however I see the POIs on the plot.

Does anyone have a solution to make this POI list work?
Is this an update that broke this functionality even though it worked at the beginning?

I bought this GPS for ultra cycling and bikepacking, it is an essential feature for preparing your route or your race strategy.
