The new Climbpro feature on the 1040. A good upgrade. Not so far.

Thank you Garmin. Another 4 hours sat watching a map update. Well I've nothing better to do.

So we are promised that the Climbpro feature will be available even when a course (why do they not call them routes like the rest of the world?) has been plotted.

So to day one. Yes the feature appears. Riding along with the data screen showing it doesn't show. Scroll to the map page and it does appear. Fine. Except when it automatically scrolls from the data screen to the map page and shows the climb. Why does it happen sometimes and not others? Who knows? Totally random and unreliable.

Then we get to the top of the climb. As in the past the screen defaults to the data screen regardless of whether you were using the map or not. The new system does the same and defaults from the map & climb screen to the data screen. Fine. Except when it just doesn't and stays firmly on the map page. Why does it happen sometimes and not others? Who knows? Totally random and unreliable.

We pay for this service. When will the geeks at Garmin put down their skinny decaff lattes, stop grooming their three day stubbles and actually devise a system that works and is reliable.

Presumably we can expect another 4 hour session with the next upgrade.
