Completed a couple of long mult-day bike rides recently using a 1040 for navigation (.fit files loaded from RWGPS). Software is up to date
Generally the 1040 worked OK giving timely navigation prompts but there were a few issues, the most important of which was the behaviour of the device when i stopped to check the route.
When you stop to look at the screen, a large pause symbol appears in the middle of the screen and the screen is dimmed. If you tap the screen, sometimes it clears and sometimes it gives you an option to "Stop course", not the first option I want under these circumstances.
Furthermore, if the bike moves even fractionally, then the pause symbol/dimmed screen appears once again.
This is extraordinarily frustrating when you are trying to find your way and/or look at alternatives. Please allow this behaviour to be toggled or get rid of it
Is there any way to stop this behaviour (I'm usually aware whether I'm stationary or moving and if it's necessary to show that the ride is paused, it would be helpful to display this in a corner of the screen and NOT dim the screen so it is impossible to read).
Other issues include:
- Please don't take me any distance up a route that will require a U-turn. On a bicycle it is usually possible to U-turn immediately, so going any distance the wrong way just adds to frustration. If a U-turn will be required then please tell me immediately.
- Climb pro remains a work in progress. It seems that the graphic gradients are from the .fit/.gpx files but the displayed gradient is from he 1040 leading to a graphic climb with a negative gradient for example. I acknowledge it can be difficult to judge visually and by effort what the gradient of a climb is but the percentage gradient numbers seem to bear only a tenuous relationship to subjective judgement (and are inconsistent)
- Route re-calculation seems pretty slow and isn't complete when the 'calculating' message disappears and it takes longer still for the map to update.
- By contrast the device can sometimes get caught in indecision, suggesting one route and then as you move towards it, the device suggests one nearer the point you've just left.
- My 1040 seems persistently to struggle with finding my speed sensor and I have to drag down on the screen and refresh sensors to get the sensor detected (or sometimes manually find and connect the sensor)
Cheers
