Why is it taking a long time to download maps at initial setup on Garmin Express?

I got the 1040S today and added it to Garmin Express, and let it do its updates. Is it normal for the "Downloading Maps" step to take a long time (10+ hours) to download? I only need North America maps, but is it downloading the whole universe? Slight smile Anyway to expedite it? TIA

    I stopped it, then restarted Garmin Express. When it told me it had updates, including Map updates, there's a button the "Manage Maps.." and clicking that let me choose just North America maps.

    Not all but at least our local galaxy. Express does allow you to select maps/map sections, eg NA comes in 2 parts, Europe in 3 and there are additional Climb Pro "maps". Depending on our region it will by default load additional other region maps eg if in NA you get NA + Europe, the initial estimate is in my experience always pessimistic and often finishes in half or less time, but still it is GBs & GBs...

    Thanks. I did narrow it down to just NA/US and started it last night. This morning it says I don't have enough memory? WT..? How do I "remove" maps? Or does it remove the "unchecked" maps and install just the one I selected?
