Pause symbol during record activity - completely pointless

I recently switched from an Edge 530 to a 1040.
Among the many advantages, unfortunately, I also see one rather unnecessary change - during activity, the activation of autopause is also announced by a sign of such in the middle of the screen.
Do we really need this superfluous symbol in the middle of the screen ? Am I unaware of the fact that I am just not moving and standing ? Just framing the screen in a different color is enough - I don't need two vertical dashes on the screen that obscure one of the fields for me.

  • Tap the screen, if you need to do something with it. It will return to its normal state, and it is still functional.

  • I know - but I don't want to touch the screen to make the pause symbol disappear. I want it not to be there at all.

  • It is a long lasting request which I have done several times already.

Apparantly Garmin thinks that we users a some kind of stupid, not knowing that we don't move.
As for me Garmin doesn't need to 'tell me so' at all.

For me, when not moving I would like to use the map in such case to check the route.
Indeed, as other say, you can touch the screen and the symbol dissapears, however within a flash, the symbol returns and blocks the screen again.

Sometime I feel that Garmin doesn't do tests in the outside while this pause symbol is a ridiculous pain in the ass.
Having requested multiple times and not seen any updates that removed this symbol, for now I feel Garmin is kinda deaf on this subject.

  • correct, but it returns in a flash!

  • All in all, we should be thankful that while driving we don't have a big green triangle displayed in the middle, that we are moving again - because we probably don't notice that either ;-)

Examples where garmin doesn't give a damn about what its customers expect are numerous - you don't have to look far - such as the totally superfluous and unprogrammable "LAP" button on the Edge remote control.

  • Consider disabling the completely pointless auto-pause.

  • I think it's good, it notifies me that the device has auto paused. As someone new to garmin, this is useful as colours round the edge of the screen aren't obvious - not to mention that colours aren't great UI design for colour blind people

  • Thank you all for your discussion on this thread. We would like to track the feedback on the Pause sign not going away while at pause, Please send me a direct message if you would like to be added as impact.

  • Thank you everyone for your participation in this conversation. At this time we have enough information to bring to developers on this. I will post an update when I have one.
