Edge 1040 solar no longer giving turn by turn directions

As of the last software update, my 1040 solar will no longer give turn by turn directions, and every so often I get "Route Calculation Error" showing on map view. So I can't use ClimbPro if there are junctions, because I need to have map view to see where my route goes. There are no turn arrows or directions, and I don't get any audio directions either when it's linked to my phone. I do have the turn prompts enabled, my prompts are text and map, I've got version 17.29 on there. Any suggestions as to how I can get my turn by turn back? It was the main purpose of buying the device in the first place. Thanks!

  • Additional info: my 1040 came with topoactive map of Europe. I just plugged it into the computer again and Garmin Express gave me a routable cycle map of Europe to download, but my topoactive map of Europe is gone. So possible it was a mapping issue. I guess I'll find out later.

  • Any updates? Mine has been doing the same for over a month. 

  • After the last software update, I found that some of my maps had been disabled. I discovered that when I experienced the same issue you're describing. Have you gone on the device, opened the profile, and checked under navigation that all the relevant maps are enabled?

  • I checked my maps. My 1040 shipped with topoactive, but that is no longer a valid map for the 1040. It has been replaced with a Cycle map. Chances are that your topoactive map has been erased or disabled and you haven't got the Cycle map enabled. If you check your map settings and make sure you have the relevant Cycle map enabled, that might help. It's what worked for me.

  • Yes. I’ve made sure all the NA were enabled and the other countries were disabled. Still not working

  • I’m having the same issue since the last update. It’s really affecting the way I ride because I’m so focused on the map to make sure I don’t miss a turn. Very frustrating!! Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks.

  • Do you definitely have the Cycling map rather than the topoactive? There was an update recently. If you definitely have the cycle map, try removing the device from Connect, turning it off and back on again, then reconnecting it. If you go to the activity profile settings on the device (not in Garmin express, on the 1040 itself), click on navigation, then map, then map information do you have the cycle maps and base maps activated?

  • Hi. If you are uploading courses to the device and want to use them for navigation then I have a suggestion: please check if you have enabled something called "detailed navigation" in the courses section in the settings. I for some reason - maybe I turned it off by mistake - and had similar problems as described in this thread. I am using Edge 840.
