Delay in Asia Version Software Update

Hi Garmin,

Can we get a timeline on Software Update delivery for Asia units post the official software release because I have observed for the recent updates, the Asia units update are getting longer delivery timeline, previously it was within 30 days but now, it seems to be significantly longer. As an example, I am checking on weekly basis and as of today, I am still on Version 16.13

It just baffles me why cant Garmin deploy software updates in the same manner that folks like Wahoo does which is a Global Release. Or is there any hack/tips/tricks that I could restore my software to be at Global version instead of being at this Asia version which doesn't seem to benefit anything else apart from honouring of warranty based on feedback from Malaysian Garmin Official Distributor.

  • Agree. I get that there may be technical issue delaying the APAC software but I just want a timeline like you said. When to expect the update? Or is the "world release" actually a beta release and APAC version is a debugged one so it's always late?

  • I thought my 1040 somewhat broken I cant update to the latest version on the website. Now I know the reason.

  • I guess the reply function is also broken at Garmin or maybe Asia is just not important enough to be responded to... Joy

  • New firmware is still buggy

  • Have been bummed out they my 1040 has also been stuck on v16.13. Totally can’t understand the delay in getting the latest firmware with Climb Pro, whilst the rest of me mates on Wahoos have this feature. Feel penalised for buying my unit in Asia

A great way to get a loyal customer to start looking at other brands….

  • What u mean? It's always buggy...u just have to live with it if you choose Garmin product. We just need to get it updated that's all

  • For my fellow Asia unit owners, since Garmin is unable to answer, I will do everyone a favour by giving weekly updates if the latest software has reached our shores. Till it does or till I manage to sell off this brick off for Wahoo.

  • update for 23 Jun - no update and tagging once in case this flew by him and was unintentionally missed but gotta be fair since there are barrages of topic to track

  • Hey NexusKhan, don't bother. We already feedbacked multiple times since the start of this 1040 subforum.
It is the same in every other subforums for other newer Garmin models.
They simple don't give a hoot about such complaints/feedbacks.

  • True.  Not a single hoot.  It seems to be entirely deliberate.  I’ve also given feedback on this forum and had discussions with customer support.  They clearly are aware that they only make software available for some customers even as they send emails and make forum postings about new software being available.  It would be so simple to add a short disclaimer.  For example:

“We are excited to announce new software for the Edge 1040 Series.  The software is immediately available to some customers.  It will also quite likely be made available over the next 1 to 2 months to all of our customers globally.  Please note however that we sometimes do not make software available to all customers and continue to work on a subsequent version that we may make available instead.  Rest assured that you will receive software with the listed features and bug fixes sometime within the next 6 months.  We will not let you know personally, so please try to update your software from time to time to find out.”

Maybe they figured that this sounds terrible and that they better not include such a disclaimer, even if it describes accurately what they do.  As a result they lie to their customers, deliberately.  Another option they would have available is not sending emails and not making forum announcements until they have actually made features available worldwide.  Why would they send an email on May 17 to talk about new exciting ClimbPro functionality?

    CLIMBPRO ASCENT PLANNER

See remaining ascent and grade when climbing so you can gauge your effort with ClimbPro — now available on every ride with no course necessary

The email they sent is simply a lie.  It is not available - and they know it is not.  Are they trying to cheat customers into thinking that they should still get a Garmin device instead of a competitor’s device that has already launched such functionality?  Why not wait with the announcement until the software truly is available for ‘the Edge 1040 series’ instead of ‘some of the Edge 1040 series’?  It really doesn’t convince me that they ‘give a hoot’ as you said.

What gives me some hope is that they are capable of global releases.  With the Epix it’s superb.  Very odd that they keep causing all this trouble.

In the meantime I will keep marking all the software update announcements as abusive. ;-)
