Edge 1040 Solar compatible with Vector 2?

Hi,

Upgrading from Edge 1000 (destroyed / crushed) to Edge 1040 Solar. I have all my sensors connected to my Edge 1040, and data screens set up, even for my trusted Vector 2 pedals. Everything seems to work, except I'm NOT receiveing any DATA from my Vector 2 (only blank data fields riding around the neighborhood). The sensors screen shows them (both L & R) as connected, batteries OK, serial and firmware version etc.

While starting to pedal, I'm asked to calibrate. I do as adviced (click out, and run the calib), but after calibration is done, it shows no numbers, only two 'hyphens'.

What to check, and what to do?

  • I have no test rides stored (around the neighborhood, purely as technical tests), after all there was nothing to save.

Please read the above thread, specifically the problem description (mine), Rogis' temporary suggestion for a solution, and my results of carrying out his suggestions, that actually worked.

Status as of this time (as I see it):

1: Setting angles used to work on the Edge 1040 pre version 17.xx (according to Rogis' post above), but not anymore.
2: Angles set (values stored in the pedals' electronics?) using another (older Edge series), works. The main problem, cause of this thread, is that angles cannot be set using an Edge 1040 with 17.29
3: After angles are set with older Edge, the Edge 1040 works, and recieves data! All is dandy!!
4: If for any reason(?), I need to set angles again, it seems I have to rely on my friends to bring their older Edge units, to get me going (i.e. set angles).

May I suggest (I wish for) the ability to set angles from my brand new shiny Edge 1040, as (seemingly) one could do before software version 17.xx

Also, please indicate what is correct: Did Garmin drop support for my considerable investment (as indicated by Norway support), or is this all an unintended "accident" on Garmin's part.?
I'd really like to know, before shelling out for new power meters. It wouldn't be Garmain, I will not risk being dropped again...

  •  Thank you for the response.

I have read all the posts in this thread and understand that you were able to see power from your Vector 2 pedals after setting install angles on an older device. While we are glad that you were able to find a workaround that resolved this for you, this should not have been necessary.

The information you received from your Support interaction is not correct and we apologize for the confusion this has caused. We will look into this internally to address miscommunications moving forward. I can clarify that your Vector 2 pedals are compatible with the 1040. The only item of note is that the menu option to manually set install angles is not present on the 1040 as this should be automatically happening within the first couple minutes of your ride.

Based on what you have shared here this is not happening, which is why having a test ride would be helpful. Am I correct in assuming you are no longer seeing this lack of power data now that you have borrowed your friends older Edge?

  • Your assumption is correct. At this moment it is working, I can calibrate before each ride (still only testrides), and I AM RECEIVING DATA as "normal" from the pedals.
The only thing lacking would be SETTING angles, if I were to "lose" them at one point.

I am not sure when that would be needed? Change of batteries in the pedals, and/or maybe after a mechanical removal/reinstall?

BACKGROUND: Earlier, when I had my Edge 1000 (before crushing it), I would be asked to set angles after riding just a couple hundred meters (at most). The same we did the other day with my friends Edge 8XX. The bike has been in storage for about 2 years (all Garmin sensor's batteries removed, and Shimano Di2 battery disconnected), after I had a back injury doing dangerous bodily work (gardering!!!). My doctor has now 'cleared me' for action...

  • Hi Garmin-Blake. in my humble I don't think ride data is going to help. If you read my earlier post the first part of the Vector 2 calibration does not work we are not able to set angle so the rest of calibration does not work. I found that if I set angles on my old Edge 1030+ first then connected to the Edge 1040  calibration would work ok on the 1040. Clearly an issue with the Vector 2 calibration procedure. Setting angles is only required if pedals disconnected from the pods or when batteries are replaced.

  • Ignore my post I have only just seen your later update

  • Hallo Jtsolem,

(hoekinstelling)

Daarna deed die het weer bij mij
