ClimbPro issues when stopping course navigation

Since Fw 17.26 when the new ClimbPro functionality was introduced, The way it should work is according to Garmin:

ClimbPro is a feature on the Edge that will help identify and classify climbs based on the needs of cyclists while they are navigating a course (Tethered) or riding without any navigation (Free)

This works as expected if you are navigating a course and also if you ride free...., this is good

But I have issues when I am navigating and during the ride I stop navigating the course. The problem is that the system stops navigating indeed, but when it comes to ClimbPro, the 1040 still thinks you are navigating and keeps showing the "Tethered" climbs and screens and ignore the 'Free' functionality (so no climb detection during the free ride)

Any similar experiences or ways to fix it?

  • I would try going into the activity profile and selecting Climbs, then disabling Climb Pro and re-enabling it.

  • I think what you are seeing is the new climb history. I will write something up in a bit.

  • Thanks, but tried that already and didn't work

  • never heard anything about the new climb history.... looking forward to know more about that!

  • In prior software builds when following a course where climbs are detected the Edge would add a climb list page.

This page would show the course elevation profile at the top and a list of climbs below.

As you did each climb it would remove that climb from the list, and after completing the last climb it would remove the page.

This did not allow you to go back and review the climbs you had done during the ride.

A change was made so that the page would retain those climbs that you have done.

Now when you do a climb it does not remove the climb from the list, but rather marks the climb as done with a green check mark. When you switch to the page the focus is set to the next none completed climb. You can scroll up to see the climbs you have done.

If you ride the whole course the page will stay up and will show all the climbs you did while following the course.

If you stopped the course partway it will remove the course elevation profile from the top of the page and list just the climbs you did. Any undone climbs will get removed.

What I think you were seeing was the list of the climbs that you had done. Next time you ride a course with climbs, look to see if some of the climbs are marked with a green check mark after you have done them.

  • I see, thanks, that makes sense, will check that.

Now, it doesn't explain why the 'Free' functionallity stops working, but I admit I haven't done enough testing on this.... I will check further over the weekend and report bakc!
