Resting Heart Rate very inaccurate~!

I have the 1040 Solar, and for some reason, the "resting heart rate" is wildly inaccurate. I have tried to manually input my RHR, but the device seems to just want to use whatever was registered during my last activity, which in-turn renders the "Fitness Age" calculation utterly useless.

I have been using devices like this for decades, and I do like most everything else about the 1040, but this is my first Garmin device, and I am a bit frustrated that I cannot leverage all of its features, due to a simply software issue, that, after doing a cursory review, seems to be something that Garmin has simply ignored for the last year and across several software updates; any one of which could have been leveraged to implement the fix.
