Garmin Speed Sensor won’t update

I was hoping that the new firmware would solve my problem, but it didn’t. For the last month or so, on two different bikes with two different speed sensors, I get a prompt on my 1040 Solar to update the firmware on the speed sensor to fw 4.10. Each time it updates to somewhere in the teens-percent range then fails. I’ve tried replacing sensor batteries with no change in update behavior. Any suggestions?

  • I have sent you a message with steps to try.

  • If you have not tried it, put a new battery in the speed sensor first. The software update is fixing an issue with battery status reporting, so the current status of the battery may not be correctly being reported.

  • I had repeated prompts to update sensor software from my 1040, and it always failed. (Usually at the end of a ride, when the last thing in the world I wanted to do was fiddle with connections). I finally tried it at home, and kept the wheel with the speed sensor spinning, and the update was reported successful by the 1040. We'll see if it keep asking for the update, but it may be as simple as spinning the wheel for the 3-4 minutes that it takes to update.
