differences between a course and a route

Hello

I'm having trouble understanding the differences between a course and a route and the different options that can be configured on the edge 1040

Can anyone explain the differences between course and route? As well as the features in each menu below?
Is there an interaction between the parameters of menu 1 and menu 2?
For example, if in menu 2 I choose "disabled", are the options in menu 1 also disabled?

Settings/activity profiles/route/navigation/route setting

menu 1) New route calculation:
- automatic new route warning and calculation
- warning only
- automatic calculation of a new route
- automatic pause

menu 2) New route calculation:
- warned
- automatique
- disabled

Thanking you for your help

  • A “course” is a track you are using (following) for navigation.

That track can be a recorded ride or one simulated on a website Garmin Connect or RideWithGPS.

A “route” (on the device) is a path calculated by the device p. (*)

This calculated path could be to some location OR it could follow a track.

The route calculated for a track/course is enabled by “turn guidance” (which is what the big white arrows are associated with).

The settings you listed are options for what to do when you go off course (stray too far from the track/course).

    * “route” is sometimes used outside of the Garmin world as a synonym for “course”. “Route” is sometimes used to refer to a list of waypoints indicating the places you want to pass through. That is, “route” can refer to a few different things.
