Garmin edge 1040 Solar no Strava segments or maps

Nothing I do allows me to access my strava routes or strava segments. I am able to get my routes with RidewithGPS IQ app no problem, but no climb pro feature pop ups on a climb. I will add that I am syncing ride data with Strava with no issue at the end of a ride.

  • Same here - I've tried everything but there's nothing other than "Saved Routes" as an option for routes.   It's driving me mad.  I have looked at all the very old videos and advice online and these all seem to relate to pre-1040 software so just don't help.

  • You may need to give a little more background on what it is you are trying to do.

If you had a previous Edge unit with Strava courses on it and then adding a new Edge unit to your Garmin Connect account, then this will not automatically trigger those courses to be pushed to the new Edge unit.

You will need to go to either Garmin Connect Web or Phone and push the courses to the Edge.

  • Of course - I want to use a Strava route on my 1040 solar like I used to on my 1030.   I've a starred route on Strava that would have synced automatically onto the 1030.  But I have no Strava Routes on my 1040 Solar at all.   On the 1030 there was a Strava route area.  I've looked at posts on this site and I've deleted the 1040 from Connect and repaired and synced it as a new device.  Strava Routes is clicked in Connect as something that should have "data Shared". But unfortunately they don't share.

When you say I need to push the courses, how do I do that please?

  • A course added to Strava after the Edge was registered should automatically get pushed to the Edge. It will show along with all other courses in the same place. There is no separating of courses by source. Strava segments have their own menu entry under training.

In GC Web or GC Mobile, you can select a course and there is an option to send to device.

  • I do have another device I am using on my MTB that I am not removing from connect. And I have gone to both connect web and the phone and there is nothing there to "push" the courses. They are either favorited or not.

And that still doesn't address Strava segments which aren't there either.

  • this only works for courses that are in the garmin connect site. My Strava and/or RidewithGPS routes are not in there to be pushed to the device.

  • Correct. The only way to get Strava courses to the Edge with the courses containing embedded Strava segments is to have the Strava/GC integration set-up. This integration pushes the Strava courses to GC and then they get delivered to the Edge.

  • Unfortunately they don't.   In your reference to GC Web, where are you looking at Strava Routes under courses?  Many thanks

  • You are saying, create a strava route and BOOM it is in your courses! and if it doesn't show up on the edge 1040 then go to web/phone and send to device. easy peasy. well it's not showing up! that's the issue.  No old courses. no new courses.  and it's stupid, am I supposed to remake all 127 courses I already have?

  • Yes, my Strava courses that have been synced are just listed with GC created courses. I prefix my Strava course names with "S -" so I know that they came from Strava
