Tons of bugs

I'm very disappointed, 1040 is the premium edge device with premium price too.

But lot of bugs.

Yesterday, it was my second Audax (300 km), And I experienced same bugs like my previous one. Firmware 16.13

- Charging : when pug in charger, Edge switch to sleep mode and stop to charge

- Accuracy : After few hours, suddenly I'm out of the gpx track. Disabling GPS and re-enabling and it was ok for few minutes. When re-enabling with GPS-Only it was ok, but precision was not very good

- Barometer : In raining condition, clim percentage is bad. Seems- to be a design problem => https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1040-series/328452/elevation-and-gps-precision-in-wet-condition---issue So no solution for customers.

- Home screen : every time i start the 1040, I'm at the end (last item) of the home screen, very annoying to switch between profiles.

- direction: When you just change direction, next direction stay with the last one (and 0 merter) for at least 20 seconds ... And it was the same with "popup" when you are using climpro. So if you have to direction change close together, the second will be never displayed.

- climpro latency ...

Looking to move to karoo or whaoo roam v2 ...

  • I forget to mention cached direction when you modify a track ...

  • What do you want to achieve with such a post?

If you are not happy and think other devices are better, then switch to other devices.

  • Good luck with the battery on a Karoo oh and don’t try for more than 250km with a roam either ….

  • I have exactly all these problems today
This gps is a disaster, more than 6 months without having a stable gps is a scandal

  • Having a good battery does not exclude having a GPS that works properly
I had all these bugs described, I also had in the rain the need to block the touch screen, and even with the blocking, the touch was functional, completely incredible.
    I regret the edge 830

  • I don't know what you guys are doing. Maybe start investing the time into troubleshooting, resetting your device, instead of complaining.

My 1040 is working perfectly fine. 6h rides through forests and sharp turns, the gps track is perfectly following the roads and never loses the fix or anything else.

  • Roam v1 have this bug ... I don't know about v2

  • Charging, why do you care if it sleeps when charging? Or, are you charging on the move? If you are, why? I've ridden 12 hours and ended with more than 35% of the battery, I probably could end with more if I used different settings.

Accuracy, can't help you here, but using the multi-GNSS setting has presented zero issues for me in the toughest conditions with the device such as "urban canyons" and actual canyons. Or is your issues that it is not plotting your positions within 1cm accuracy? If that's it, no civilian GPS returns that kind of accuracy, but the 1040 is arguably the most accurate that is available.

Barometer, the device "baselines" your altitude at the start of a ride based on GPS using the Digital Elevation Map, then it uses the barometer which measures air pressure to account for climbing/descending. It can drift if the air pressure does not remain constant. You may not know this, but in certain weather situations, like rain, dramatic changes in air pressure are present which will likely distort the altitude plot. There is an option in Garmin Connect to do an altitude correction after uploading your ride, which uses the DEM plot of your course.

Home screen, this bug was real, it is gone in 17.xx betas, which means any 17.xx release will fix this.

No idea what your gripe is regarding the direction.

Climbpro is massively improved in 17.xx. In a lot of ways.

Good luck with the Karoo, it has about 5 hours actual battery life.

  • - Charging : When I stop my ride for a short sleep, I plug the GPS but it stop to charge and enter sleep mode. And it's not fully charged when I start

    - Accuracy : 1040 complain about out of track so not centimeter but About 10 to 50 meters.

    - Barometer : 1040 show -1% (so descent) when i have 8% ! Because a bad design and water enter next the sensor.

I will test beta firmware ...

  • Regarding charging (I have an 840, but it is practically a 1040 with a smaller screen)

Hello, I own an Edge 840 and also noticed something strange related to charging. It's not a big problem, but: scenario 1: the device is in a sleep state, then I insert the USB cable, the screen with the Garmin logo and charging progress turns on - after a few / several minutes the device shuts down / goes into some unknown state with screen turning off (?) and stops charging; scenario 2: I connect the cable, turn off the device and charging correct is fine up to 100%.
