Edge 1040 and neo 2t setup to have comparable values as on road

Dear all,

I want to ride some tracks indoor on my Neo 2t controlled by Edge 1040 and would like to have comparable values as if I ride with my Rally 200 and Edge 1040 on road.

Yesterday I followed a mostly flat course and achieved an average of 38km/h with an average of 175W (2km flat), but on the road I achieve appr. 30kmh with the same power - I would like to have indoor approximately the same speed when riding the same power...

How to set up?

thx

Helmut

  • The distance and speed values on the trainer are virtual in the sense that they at least depend on the resistance level (at the minimum, even if you install and use a real speed sensor) or are computed based on your watts per kilogram and other properties (like your bicycle weight or aerodynamic properties) to simulate coasting and other effects that the trainer does not physically simulate.

In general, if you have a metrics mismatch between riding a course in reality and on a trainer, you could try to tweak the difficulty to get a closer match. I don't believe Edge 1040 allows you to tweak the difficulty of the simulation (like the Tacx app does, for example - you could try to import your courses there and try that), so you could play with the settings you have available (like bicycle weight in trainer "sensor" settings) to try to have a closer match. However, improving the match for one course could make it worse for another, depending on course properties and simulation limits. If you really care about more precise simulation, use software that allows you to tweak most simulation parameters. The Tacx Desktop app might be a good starting point given that you have a Tacx trainer.
