Barometer effected by water

The past couple of weeks I’ve had two rides in fairly steady rain and both times the elevation data has been way out. It seems the vent underneath the unit gets blocked by either water or grit thrown up by the front wheel. I’m concerned that it may eventually be permanently blocked as I do a considerable amount of gravel riding. Has anyone experienced this?

  • A well known Garmin "feature" on many models, if using Strava use their elevation corretion .

    They don't like the rain.

  • Barometric pressure, when used by the altimeter, is affected by the air pressure (obviously) so when riding in a storm you get low pressure and lower than expected elevation … a common issue with barometric altimeters Grin

I use a fixed know altitude at the start of my rides to calibrate it.
