Brand New Garmin Edge 1040 Solar - Map Update Failed

I have a brand new Garmin Edge 1040 Solar. I did all of the setup steps connecting it to my phone and to my Windows 10 computer. Everything went well until I tried to do a map update on Garmin Express. The map update keeps failing and now it says that I have no installed maps. I am trying to install the North America map. Garmin support is closed today. Does anyone have an answer? How do I get this map installed?

  • Check what maps you have already on the unit.

Menu -> activity profile -> name of profile you are using - > Navigation -> Map -> Map information

  • It turns out that the cable that came with the Garmin was the culprit. I replaced it with a USBC to USBC cable and the updates worked flawlessly. Thank you.

  • I have to admit, that after replacing one "USB-C to USB-C" cable with another one, I was able to get maps updated.

Here is the full story which might be useful for those, who experience errors while updating maps.

Firstly I used a cable supplied with an external drive, which visually appeared as a solidly built one. With this cable map updates failed twice in an hour/ an hour and a half after starting the update. Then I replaced the cable with another one I bought recently and ... the update passed through successfully. Not sure what was the difference between these two cables, but one didn't work while another one worked just fine. I used mac m1 as the host.
