Elevation and GPS precision in wet condition - ISSUE

Hi guys,

I recently bought a EDGE 1040 device. I have been using it for some times now. I live in Belgium, a really wet country.
I noticed that everytime it is raining and there is water on the screen, the elevation goes wrong (elevation gets stuck) AND the GPS sees me on another path close by, which is very annoying coz the device wants to recalculate the route all the time.
I've been using a Fenix 6X watch and I've never experienced such a trouble.
I must add that I always make sure that the cover at the bottom of the unit is correctly closed !

I know there are already some subjects regarding this issue, but my question is :

- should I return the device and hope for a new one that will never have that issue OR they will all be the same ? (talking about the same unit of course).

It's the most expensive Edge unit Garmin sells.. It should work perfectly.. It's an hardware issue, can't be solved via update Could it be the little string (to prevent the device from falling…

But it could also have been pure coincidence... it only happened once (fortunately) if it happens to you next time, just try the gps-off/on ting and report whether it helped or not

So there was an issue where having bad barometric data could adversely affect the GPS position. Garmin made a fix for this in beta build 17.28

Change Log:

Fixed positioning drift.
Fixed lock on road setting.

It's reassuring if it's only software, but unsatisfied to wipe so many bugs

The change will not improve the elevation data if the barometric port does get blocked by rain, but it will stop the GPS track from being influence by that elevation data.

It makes you wonder if this kind of barometric altimeter is very useful for a bicycle gps.
With the GNSS wouldn't we obtain a better reliability for the altitude? I have a car with a GPS and I find it very precise without risk of drift due to the weather, in any case it's better than my garmin FR945 watch for example...

Do I understand this in the right manner? rainwater blocks the "input" of the barometer unit on the device? Rainwater getting under the USB cover?
