Occluded map screen. aka even more silly messages.

How do I prevent the "Stop Course" and "Pause Navigation/Re-reroute" popups from ever showing? They are of no value and hinder my ability to navigate as they occlude my position. If I want to stop the course (or pause navigation(?)), I should just press the stop sign on the map screen. Oh wait, Garmin broke that too.

  • The stop course is brought up by tapping the screen. The 1040 does not have a stop course icon on the map page. You stop the course course by tapping the screen and seeing the stop course button you have above or by accessing the widget loop.

The re-route option comes up when you go off course. This can be controlled at

Activity Profiles -> Name of profile -> Navigation -> Routing -> Course Recalculation ->

You probably want "Auto Pause". This will stop the course until you get back on.

  • I'll try "Auto Pause". Thanks.

Tapping the screen also turns on the backlight. But I can't see the map because of the "Stop Course" popup. Ridiculous! The stop course icon was fine. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

  • Agree 100%, rarely used feature there's no need to have it popup every time I touch the screen.

  • Thanks again. Indeed Course Recalculation -> Auto Pause eliminates the "Pause Navigation/Re-reroute" popup.  Instead, it has an "Off course" popup at the top of the screen that does not occlude my position. If the positioning of the "Stop course" popup was the same, it would be acceptable. Still ridiculous, but acceptable.
