Navigation Wrong and restart

Hello, past weekend i navigate through a 400KM route loaded in the garmin, in every stop for eating or buying water, the navegation got completely wrong, the only way that come back was stopping the current route, and reloaded.

What's wrong?

  • A 400 is a good ride, can you give more detail about what you saw, what was “completely wrong” , a screenshot would be ideal, did you pause the ride at these stops or did it auto-pause, did you have turn guidance enabled, what happen when you restarted.

  • Hello, auto-pause, it seems that the garmin got lost, so when restart to ride the indications were wrong, next turn, etc, turn guidance was disabled as this one was exported through a fit file from RWGPS.

When load the course again, and start riding, everything was fine again. But i have to do it all the time.

  • If you have software 16.11 then there are reports of sensors not reconnecting without a power off / restart after the Garmin was in sleep mode, and there were similar beta reports for this version of the same after pause, perhaps it extends to the GPS sensor connection as well. I would try disabling auto-pause and just let the timer keep running (uploading to RWGPS will still tell you your stopped/moving time). I don’t have 16.11 as I never trust new Garmin versions until they have had a month of use by others.

  • Thanks for the advice, this weekend will try a exported GPX file and with turn guidance enabled.  But here we have a serious problem!! We can get completely lost....

  • For most rides especially long I do not use Garmin “turn guidance” as it is too distracting, too many prompts, every round about it says something when I can clearly see I just continue straight ahead. I load a RWGPS  fit or Tacx file and I can also turn off “course points” if I just want to follow the course line on the map. If I want prompts I turn “course points “ on and use the CRS PT DIST field to tell how far to next point/turn. Better for Audax rides especially at night.

  • Ps looks like a new Garmin beta 16.12 is about to be released, perhaps this will solve the problem although I am not optimistic

  • My big problem up to know is how to get the control points (POI in RWGPS) to the course. Seems GPX will naturally will export that data, but i don´t know what i'm loosing. Fit file was a disaster Joy

  • In RWGPS FIT files are functionally the same as TCX except they are binary format therefore a lot smalled but you need a FIT file reader to view the contents. TCX can be viewed with a text editor although an XML editor is better.

The RWGPS "course points' are derived not from POIs but from the cue (sheet) entries either (or both) generated by RWGPS at turns or custom entered (if you have a paid subscription or club account). You can view the course points in the TCX file, they are towards the end of the file after all the Track Points. Id both garmin turn guidence and course points are active it gets confusing as both will tell you of upcoming turns, it is better to have only one active at a time.

RWGPS GPX files do not have course points

The advantage of course points is that you have full control of which ones will display, eg eliminate anything that says straight ahead as these add no value and just become distracting.
