Long Distance Cycling Events DSW on Edge 1040

Hey there!

I am using right now an Edge 530 and an Fenix 7X SS

I love the Daily suggested workout on my Fenix that trains me for specific running events.

But since I am more a cyclist than a runner I am thinking about upgrading my Edge 530 to a 1040 (Solar) to have good DSWs regarding cycling events as well.

But what happens if you running events as well as cycling events on your calendar? Do the Fenix 7 and Edge 1040 communicate with each other so that I know if I should go running or cycling today?

How do the trainings on the Edge 1040 look like if you are training for a long distance event like 500km of Gravel?

Thank you very much :)

    This morning

    - F7 told me I should do a long base cycling (~2h @135w)

    - Edge1040 told me to do recovery ride (~30' at 145-167w)

    - my brain told me to do 45' at 170w average, with some anaerobic intervals in between

Why would you go for Solar version? You get a worse screen with not so much benefit on power hours. Edge1040 Non-solar has a very long battery life.

You will get, instead, a worse screen visibility on the Solar version and you will, also, pay some extra moneys which might be spent in a better way. I was also thinking about this switch from my Edge1030+ and, after reading some opinions and hearing from some friends, I decided to go non-solar. Its the best.

If you go for very very long rides, I can assume you would also have an external battery pack four your phone. You can use this charging the Edge on the run, if really needed.

P>S> I also switched from Fenix 6Pro non-solar to the F7 solar, back in December. I hate the screen on the F7 when comparing it to F6 and its visibility, readability under certain conditions(clouds, indoors, no sun), I would have choose F7 non-solar if there would be a option to also keep the sapphire screen I had on F6

    Best of luck!

Do you have a long distance event as primary race saved in your Garmin Calendar?

Actually I like the coach function in the devices ;) - but maybe the Fenix 7X is enough for that as it takes my jetlag and so on into account Slight smile

I am not pretty sure about the Solar Version - I had a Fenix 6X without Solar and without Sapphire before my 7X SS. And it's true, the display of the 6X was much easier to read, so I checked the 7X without Solar. But in my experience the difference is more because of the sapphire glas than of the solar charging.

And since I am doing multi day races with only a few hours of sleep somewhere in the bushes I want as much battery life as possible. Sure a power bank is much cheaper and I will carry it anyway for my phone - but I hate the struggle with all the wiring during the ride I have now with my Edge 530.

Is there a way in the menu of the 1040 to "resume later" like on the Fenix? Would be great for a short sleeping stop when I you don't want to start a new activity afterwards :)
