1040 Asia lost ongoing activity

I did a 110km+1000 meters elevation ride today; however, when my mate and I were having lunch after 80K, the activity seemed vanished when I wanted to restart.... I stopped the activity before lunch and when I tried to restart the activity, I noticed that the ongoing activity was gone! I could only restart an activity for the remaining 37k. Luckily I had my apple watch on at the same time so I still logged in a grand fondo for February

I'm 100% sure that I didn't discard the activity since it's a two step process: press the stop button and then click on the screen. I didn't do any of that. All that i did is press the stop the button and the on/off button to lock the screen.

Weirdly, it seems that some of the stats were saved: in the exercise load it clearly showed I had high intensity workout and the recover time is 89 hours -- clearly not the workload from a 37k zone 1 recovery ride.

I'm really confused, I don't know what could caused it. It seems I'm not the only one having this issue.

My questions are:

1. is it possible to recover the lost activity. If it's possible, how?

2. what could cause the activity to disappear?

3. I had a vivosmart 5 fitband, is it going to interfere with activity on Edge device?( I did use the garmin connect app during lunch)

Any help would be very much appreciated. I'm a little frustrated: before switching to 1040 I had a 530, and it had a logic board issue that cause it to reboot during workouts, which result in losing exercise load and recovery time. Now my new 1040 still have trouble logging activities, I honestly started to consider change to another manufacture for cycling computers...
