Maps have no detail even when set to "Most"

So I updater my software to 15.24 and all my detail on maps is gone. All surface streets just look like lines and it making it difficult to navigate with the 1040. I basically have to pull my phone out to find a street. Is there a way to restore maps? I'm in the US and have US maps loaded.

  • I'm not sure why but sometimes maps get deselected and you end up with only the base map. You can check if maps are enabled on the device under activity profile, navigation, map, map info (this is from the manual, I don't have my 1040 handy).

There are new maps available fairly recently, is it possible you had a failed update? Worth plugging in and verifying with Garmin Express..

  • Thank you for your response! I just checked and I have maps enabled (specifically North America).

As for updates, I just plugged into Garmin Express and it says I'm up to date. Not sure how to re-install if possible.

  • To re-install use GE and select the map manger when viewing the unit. Unselect the map you want to uninstall. You will need to disconnect and reconnect the unit after then install. Then you can install the map again.

  • Thank you! So I did this and still ran into the same issue. Now I was using the North America maps and this was not working so I scrolled through and found maps for just the US. After I uninstalled the North America maps and installed the US only all is good now!
